‘Interior Dialogues’ - joint exhibition with Shelley Masters

Opening Friday 8th September, 5pm - 7pm

I was very happy to be invited to exhibit alongside Hawke’s Bay artist Shelley Masters in this exhibition which opens on Friday 8th September. It is an interesting selection of artists, our work is very different in style, but some of the prevailing influences are quite similar - just with very different end results. The gallery describe it as “a quietly thoughtful exhibition with two very different styles that play off beautifully against each other” and I think that is pretty accurate. . . . I also think the '“quietly thoughtful” bit sums me up pretty well personally too!

I’m really looking forward to seeing it all up on the walls, so far I’ve only seen one of Shelley’s paintings for the exhibition, so it will be interesting to see how the paintings ‘talk to each other’.

The two paintings below were created entirely independently, so I find it kind of spooky how much these two paintings have in common in terms of composition!

The exhibition opens Friday 8th September, and runs until 5th October 2023. Please join us for the opening of Interior Dialogues, between 5pm and 7pm, Friday 8 September. Meet the artists and enjoy some local hospitality sponsored by The Giant Brewing Company and Te Mata Estate Winery. It would be lovely to see you there.

Work in the ‘Interior Dialogues’ exhibition - Shelley Masters (left) and Amanda Wilkinson (right)

In the words of the gallery:

Interior Dialogues is a show of new paintings by Shelley Masters and Amanda Wilkinson. These two artists work in very different styles with different approaches to their art, but we chose to exhibit them together as both seem to be asking the same question: what is going on here? We leave it to you to decide if the "Interior" in the title is a literal reference or asking the viewer to look inward and whether the "dialogues" are taking place internally, or are the works in dialogue with each other?  Either way, the show is a pure delight and we are very thrilled to be bringing it to you!

Please join us for the opening of Interior Dialogues, between 5pm and 7pm, Friday 8 September. Meet the artists and enjoy some local hospitality sponsored by The Giant Brewing Company and Te Mata Estate Winery.

The exhibition catalogue is available on the Muse website if you want to purchase online.
